Before I go any further let me explain that this pony is part of a set of ponies that I have been working on called ‘A Family Affair’. A mare, Frolic, and a foal, Gambit, go with him, which is why he is as he is. I also believe he is the only pony I have been working on that no one has seen. I have just finished decorating him. In actuality he is a Chief’s pony and is decorated with a man’s pad saddle. The men preferred this style saddle to that of the woman’s saddle with the high front pommel and the back cantle of the seat. A few men rode this pad type saddle without the stirrups but I chose to include them on this pony. The men also preferred the more colorful of the horses and so I made him a spotted horse, an Appaloosa. These remarkably colorful horses were greatly coveted among the Warriors and Chiefs of the Great Plains. They were decorated like this pony, and some even more so, for special occasions such as ceremonies, or visiting other tribes. They were so very proud of their ponies.
