I really don’t have a story to tell on my pony this year. So I tell how I made her.. I have waited for the TOPP to come out with a Fairy Pony now for a while. When one wasn’t popping up I decided to make mine. I knew it needed to be light and glittery and colorful. I knew the colors I wanted purples, pinks and blues. The wings I figured would be the challenge and the paint would come around. When it came down to painting I really didn’t know how to get what I needed done with the colors I wanted. I had several long email conversations with out wonderful artist member JESSE she helped me by giving me tips and ideas. The colors used are purple, gold, blue and pearls acrylic and oil paint along with Pearl Ex which is powder. The pony started out pearl white then added several coats of the remaining color. It depends on how you look at the pony if you see the gold and pearl. The Perl Ex was use on top of the paint with my fingers. I was able to accomplish a blended color that came out very pretty to look at.
I gathered ideas from OOAK artists for the wings. The wings are made from fantasy film, silver wire, Swarovski Crystals, little gold beads, glitter and little purple micro beads. You lay the wire between layers of film and shrink the fantasy film with a hot blow dryer. It shrinks to wire. You trim then add your embellishments. Drilling the holes for the wings turned out to be easier then I thought. I was a bit concerned at first I would crack her but all well that ends well.
The chest piece is made out of seed beads gold, purple, silver and Swarovski Crystals (purple velvet and clear) with a gold charm holding it together on the chest. The halter and line is made out of the same with a Swarovski Crystal pair shape bead at the end.
The fairy holding the pony is an ornament I found that was perfect to hold the lead line. I removed her from her box and with in 30 seconds of getting her she fell on the floor and broke her arms. I had to send out a 911 to Joani to please help me repair her. I sent her out the next day. She was repaired and back to me within a couple of days. Now I have to figure out how to help her to stand on her own. Off to Michaels and 60 minutes later I came out with wood squares. I sanded painted and glittered the base. I sanded out a dent in the wood so her toes would fit. Her heals stayed on top. I poured clear drying glue over her feet let it dry and now she stands on her own. After months of thinking on how to do this pony I really like how she came out. But now its time to think about next years contest. What can I come up with now?
