Grandfather
Raven
Krista aka canadiangirl |
Judge
1- Very bold and eye-catching with a good composition; I think this one
could grab you from across a room. I also enjoyed the story that inspired
it.

Judge 2- I was impressed with the artist for
taking the time to research....very good thing to do. It not only gives you
ideas but clarifies truths and gives you a creative story to build upon. Her
design uses the shape of the horse (needless to say, I like that). More
colors could have been used and maybe a few more symbols, but overall, a
nice design and good painting technique.
Judge
3- The story and history was a great lead into viewing the pony. Good
use of colors, detail and presentation. This new artist has talent and I
want to see more.

Judge
1-Crisp, clean lines on a good composition. I like the added
touch of the little red paw-print on the base

Judge2-Wonderful transitions on the colors and use of the shape.
Maybe a few more animals, birds and plants would
have added more interest to the landscape. People often commented about the
lack of something in the space where the eyes should be on the horse
sculpture. Like the soul was lost on it. Perhaps a couple of birds would
capture the effect of that. I can feel the heat and serenity of the desert
in your painting.
Judge
3- The story and pony worked together well. I liked the
detail and blending of colors. A good presentation and finish.

Fairy Pony
Debra aka ponywuvv aka Bossmare
 |

Judge 1- A dramatic and
beautiful presentation; I really like the colors used on the pony

Judge 2- Another
example of research made perfect. Asking the help of others and finding a
story to go with the making of it, was a plus. The materials used were
marvelous...both pre-manufactured and handmade. I like the two part
idea...the little fairy maiden with the lead rope was a great addition.
Kudos for asking for help on repair and learning how to do it. These are
signs of a good artist!

Judge 3-
In two words "Totally
Awesome" The pony alone must have taken many hours, but the figurine
is the icing on the cake. The only thing I found lacking was a wonderful
Friary tale.

Judge 4-
Had
a lot of effort and work put into the three dimensional form and was a
beautiful presentation as well. It is a lovely pony.
Judge 1 -
Picked Emergence I think it is just a great overall
presentation of an original idea. Judge 2 picks
The Fairy Pony
was a success in both design and final product. I imagine if it came down
to a manufacturing thing though, the pony would cost more and be hard to
ship (more breakage). As an original...IT IS MARVELOUS!!!!! How much does
she want for it? I'm not much for the fairy stuff, but I love this one.
Judge 3-
My
favorite of the 1st place ponies for Grand Champion is FAIRY PONY. I
just went WOW when I saw the 1st picture of it and it has held that place.
Judge 4-

(Judge 4 could not decide between two ponies other pony being
Freedom Pony.
Freedom
Pony had a terrific, professional and very neat drawing and was a
skilled use of design working with
the form of the pony. Sorry I could not pick one winner. But I like both of
the above.

EUROPONY
Tamara aka reingirl |

Judge 1-Has a nice, clean overall presence and
composition to it. I like the story behind the meaning of the coins chosen
to use.
Judge
2- Another great story to go with the pony! This really does help
to sell the artists' work. I'm proud of this artist for taking the time to
drill out the spots for the coins and dome the coins to fit the space. Great
work! Using the base as a flag was a good idea, too. I find when working
with the surface of these pony kits that if you do thin coats of color right
out of the tube watered down, it makes for some vibrant colors. Sometimes
just a little too thick paint makes it dark and the vibrancy is not there. I
love the way that flags "glow" in the light and using that white background
and a watercolor technique of layering can make a color look so bright.

Judge 3- Good lead in to the pony and good presentation. Many hours
must have gone into mounting the coins. Very good from start to finish.
Judge
4- was very clever and had to take some time to inset those coins. |

Ride The Wings of Light
Chris aka loveofhorses |

Judge 1-
I really like the colors used, the design, and the way it is placed on the
pony. As an embellished entry, though, I think the rhinestones on the base
may take away a little from the beauty of the design.

Judge 2- Great idea, story and use of the horses
shape! The glass is a bit subdued due to the use of white paint as a
highlight. The wonderful thing about glass is that it picks up so many
colors of what is around it. A tiny touch of some of the other colors on
each of the panes would have given this affect. Only a dot of white is
needed here and there to pull off a sparkle or two. Since so many of the
stained glass windows used faceted jewels, it would have been nice to see
the jewels on the base used in the centers of the flowers on the horse. The
base could have used a swash of colors on it to portray the light that is
reflected on a wall from such jewels making it look more complete

Judge 3- The story and pony worked great together. I
would have liked to see her running on
stained glass, but the
embellishments were a nice touch. Very beautiful pony.

SILVER ANNIVERSARY
Annette aka txpollock |

Judge 1- The embellishing on the base nicely
complements the design on the pony, and I like that the artist used
something personally meaningful to depict.
Judge
1-The story makes this one! The colors are vibrant and the idea was
wonderful about commemorating the artists' travels and the special date. The
art could have been larger on the pony shape...filling it more...wrapping
around the sculpture and extending to the other side. Maybe a silver disc on
the ponies' belly would have been all the artist needed to write the info
on. Be brave....paint more! My mom always said that "practice makes perfect"
and I'm pretty sure she was right. You are on the right track!
Judge
3- A good use of colors and presentation of the Arizona
landscape. The simple side left me wanting for more, but overall, a pretty
pony

BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE
Charlotte aka zehorsegal |

Judge 1- Lovely
and delicate looking; I like the colors used, and the way the flowers
continue onto the base.

Judge 2- Pretty color combination and
good story. The crystals make it feel light and airy like the beautiful
butterfly on its back. This artist needs to get brave and use some more
colors and paint on this pony...express the patterns that make the butterfly
so unusual on the body of the pony. But I can feel the sparkle of the
crystals like dew on the flowers and mane. Very pretty pony!

Judge 3- Very
good presentation and detail. I like a good finish but was left thinking
about a story to go with the pony.

Freedom
Sue aka LaMarr |

Judge 1-
Has an appealing overall
presentation; I like the symbolism and the placement of everything

Judge 2-
This artist is on the right track! Using the form and wrapping the tail in
the flag... and the ribbons trailing down the front legs and chest. Boy,
does this pony flow. Colors are great together and the story is wonderful.
Keep up the good work. I want to see this on the pony kit next!

Judge 3- The Freedom story and pony
went hand in hand. Very good concept, design and use of colors. I hope to
see the final pony soon.

Emergence
Jesse aka Jesse |

Judge 1-WOW..a
very unique and clever idea beautifully done. I think it would make a great
addition to the TOPP collection.

Judge 2-
Another example of great vision. The story and the end product is wonderful.
The artist did a great sculptural and painting job on the petroglyph
surface....you can really feel her jumping out of that skin of rock. I liked
the simple Native American accoutrements on the horse and the use of the
beads on the rein. Good job!

Judge 3- The story was short but to the point.
This is a most unique native pony and must have taken much time and
patience. Very professional , great job.
Judge
4- Very
clever and nicely painted. |

STALLION
Joani aka morningsong |
Judge
1-
Visually stunning with nice craftsmanship on the saddle and accessories.
Judge
2-
Good work on the sculpturing of the saddle and accoutrements...lots of
detail. Gotta love that sculpturing clay! I'm thinking it could use more
colors to bring attention to the fine details, though. Love the spotting on
the Appaloosa and the backdrop for the photo. Makes for a nice presentation
Judge
3 - The background and pony worked well together.
A Leopard appaloosa is an eye catcher and the embellishments were icing on
the cake. Very good from presentation to finish.
Judge
4 -
Visually stunning with nice craftsmanship on the saddle and accessories.

Calm Before the Storm
Stefanie aka Stefanie |

Judge 1 -
A
bold design with good composition and use of color that is very eye-catching
to me. I also like the way the blue is streaked down the legs onto the base.

Judge 2-
Love the colorful drips of paint and the negative use of the space with the
waves. Due to the small shape of the horse, the drips were large and kind of
took over the pony. On a larger sculpture, this would have been a really
neat affect...giving the artist a chance to use more colors in the drips.

Judge 3 -
This is a unique use of paint and colors. Eye catching
design, but wish it had a story to go with it.
